    Icam Post Developer

Post Developer is a powerful post-development environment for manufacturers that want to create, refine, and manage their own CNC post-processors in-house.

This option is ideal for teams with internal post-processing expertise, multiple machines, frequent post updates, or a need for greater control over post behavior and output standards.

Our goal was to use the existing APT files, over 70 of them, and run them through a new Icam CAM-POST™ to achieve the same tool path.

Icam Post did an excellent job collaborating with us to develop the Post, in order to give us an error free CNC tool path; especially with little to no changes in the original APT files.

Why do generic post-processors create problems?

Generic post-processors can be useful starting points, but they often fail to capture the full reality of a specific machine, controller, and manufacturing environment.

When the post-processor does not reflect how the machine actually behaves, programmers and operators may be forced to manually refine the NC code after post-processing.

That creates and amplifies risk, slows down programming, and makes it harder to maintain consistent output across machines, shifts, and teams.

    Manual NC code editing.

Programmers may need to adjust G-code after post-processing to match machine behavior, shop standards, or controller requirements.

    Longer prove-outs.

If the NC output is not trusted, programs often need more cautious prove-out time at the machine.

    Missed machine capability.

Generic posts may not fully support advanced functions, rotary behavior, canned cycles, probing, transformations, or multi-axis strategies.

    Inconsistent output.

Different CAM systems, machines, and programming teams can create inconsistencies across the manufacturing workflow, accelerating the risk of a crash.

What is a Dedicated CNC post-processor?

A dedicated CNC post-processor converts CAM output into machine-ready G-code that’s tailored to your exact CNC machine and controller.

Unlike a generic post processor, a dedicated post can be developed around your actual machine configuration, programming standards, preferred output format, controller behavior, and manufacturing process.

A dedicated CNC post-processor may account for:

    • Machine kinematics.
    • Controller syntax.
    • Rotary axis control.
    • Linear and rotary travel limits.
    • Head/head, table/table and head/table configurations.
    • Canned cycles.
      Tool changes.
    • Macros.
    • Probing routines.
    • Coordinate transformations.
    • Multi-axis positioning.
    • Mill-turn operations.
    • Local shop-floor preferences.

This helps reduce the need for manual G-code edits after post-processing, and gives programmers greater confidence that the output reflects the machine that will run it.

    Dedicated CNC post-processors
for any CAM software.

Icam’s CAM-POST™ technology is built on CAM independence, enabling manufacturers to support many major CAD/CAM and PLM systems.

This gives manufacturers the flexibility to create dedicated post-processors for the CAM systems they already use, rather than forcing teams to change their programming software to suit a post-processing workflow.

Icam Post supports the creation of dedicated CNC post processors, and machine-specific NC output for a wide range of machine tools, controllers,
and CAM systems. Icam Post’s dedicated post processors can be developed for CAM systems, including (but not limited to):

SmartPATH® and SmartCUT™ can be especially powerful when used together.

SmartCUT™ detects air-cut segments and identifies where the tool is not engaged with material. Instead of simply increasing speed along the same programmed path, SmartPATH® can calculate a faster, safer path to the start of the next cut.

Together, they help manufacturers improve NC programs by combining air-cut elimination with intelligent path optimization.

    Two ways to create the
    post-processor you need.

Icam Post can support different post-processing requirements depending on how your team works.

For manufacturers that want a reliable post-processor without building and maintaining it entirely in-house, Icam Post can help provide dedicated CNC post-processors built around specific production requirements.

This option is ideal if you need a post-processor for:

    • A new CNC machine.

    • A new controller.

    • A new CAM system.

    • A complex 5-axis or mill-turn machine.

    • A special-purpose manufacturing application.

    • A machine that needs more reliable output than a generic post can provide.

    • A production environment where manual NC edits are creating risk or delay.

    • With this route, Icam Post works with your machine, controller, CAM system and production information to help create a machine-specific post-processor that reflects how your manufacturing process actually works.

    A Vericut/Icam-created dedicated post-processor can help:

    • Reduce internal development workload.

    • Improve post-processed NC output.

    • Support machine-specific behavior.

    • Reduce manual code editing.

    • Improve programming consistency.

    • Support complex machine kinematics.

    • Create output that better reflects your shop-floor requirements.

For organizations that want greater internal control, Icam Post’s CAM-POST™ gives experienced manufacturing teams the ability to develop, refine and manage their own CNC post-processors.

This route is ideal for manufacturers that have internal post-processing knowledge, frequent machine changes, multiple CAM systems, or a large CNC environment that needs ongoing post maintenance.
