Position Overview:

This position applies advanced engineering and programming knowledge to develop and deliver technical solutions using Vericut Composites Programming (VCP) and Vericut Composites Simulation (VCS). The Applications Engineer analyzes customer requirements, configures and validates composite manufacturing workflows, develops or modifies post-processors and simulation models, and exercises professional judgment in resolving technical challenges involving automated fiber placement (AFP), CNC and robotic systems, and related manufacturing processes.

This is an early-career professional role with ownership of defined-scope customer projects and technical deliverables. The Applications Engineer independently plans and executes assigned work, evaluates technical alternatives, and makes recommendations within established project objectives, with general guidance and review available from experienced Applications Engineers for novel or highly complex matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Analysis & Composites Applications

• Apply engineering, manufacturing, and programming principles to analyze customer requirements and translate them into effective VCP and VCS solutions
• Evaluate AFP layup strategies, machine behavior, tool orientation, path characteristics, and simulation results to identify technical risks and recommend appropriate solutions
• Design, configure, and validate Virtual Machine Configurations and simulation models for assigned applications, including auxiliary equipment such as ultrasonic cutters and probes
• Exercise professional judgment in diagnosing technical issues, comparing alternative approaches, and determining solutions within the scope of assigned projects

Customer Project Ownership

• Own defined-scope customer projects or workstreams from requirements gathering through technical delivery, validation, and closeout
• Develop project plans, milestones, deliverables, and status updates; proactively identify technical or schedule risks and coordinate appropriate resolution
• Lead technical discussions, demonstrations, training sessions, and implementation activities for assigned customers, both remotely and on-site
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned projects, coordinating with customers and internal stakeholders while escalating novel or highly complex matters as appropriate
• Maintain accurate project records, customer interactions, decisions, and support activities in Salesforce and other internal systems

Programming, Post-Processing & Machine Configuration

• Develop, modify, test, and troubleshoot Python-based post-processors, automation scripts, and reusable technical tools for assigned customer applications
• Configure CNC and robotic AFP systems, including multi-axis machines, redundant kinematic chains, and auxiliary equipment such as ultrasonic cutters and probes
• Analyze machine kinematics, tool orientation logic, layup path behavior, and controller requirements to determine appropriate post-processing and simulation strategies
• Use GitLab for version control, change tracking, code review, and collaboration in accordance with team practices

Validation, Documentation & Quality

• Define and execute appropriate test cases and regression checks to validate post-processor output, machine behavior, customer requirements, and software changes.
• Analyze test results, investigate variances, and determine whether deliverables meet technical and quality requirements before release
• Create and maintain project documentation, reusable templates, configuration guides, and knowledge base articles that support consistent and reproducible results

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Professional Development

• Collaborate with product and development teams to investigate defects, communicate customer requirements, evaluate proposed solutions, and validate fixes or enhancements
• Participate in technical reviews and consult experienced Applications Engineers when assignments involve novel technology, significant scope changes, or unusually complex risks
• Complete required product training, internal certifications, and development goals within defined timelines
• Support trade shows, webinars, technical presentations, and other sales or marketing activities as assigned

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related engineering or scientific discipline
• 0-2 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering software, industrial automation, technical support, or a related applications environment; relevant internships, co-ops, coursework, and project experience may be considered

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to apply advanced engineering, mathematical, or computer science knowledge to analyze technical requirements and solve variable problems
• Programming or scripting proficiency, preferably in Python, with the ability to understand, develop, test, and troubleshoot technical code
• Working knowledge of at least one CAD, CAM, simulation, or engineering software tool (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Rhino, Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
• Understanding of CNC machining, robotics, manufacturing processes, machine motion, or related engineering concepts
• Ability to evaluate technical alternatives, exercise independent judgment within defined project objectives, and make well-supported recommendations
• Project ownership skills, including the ability to define tasks, manage milestones, coordinate stakeholders, identify risks, and deliver assigned work with general oversight
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead technical discussions and explain complex concepts to customers and colleagues
• Self-directed, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and seek consultation when matters exceed assigned authority or technical scope
• Ability to travel up to 20%, including international travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to composites manufacturing, automated fiber placement, CNC programming, robotics, or industrial automation through coursework, internship, work experience, or personal projects
• Familiarity with Vericut, VCP, VCS, or other NC programming, simulation, or verification tools
• Exposure to post-processors, multi-axis machines, or control systems such as Fanuc or Siemens
• Familiarity with robot programming languages such as RAPID or KRL
• Experience using Git or GitLab for version control and collaborative development
• Experience with Salesforce or another customer relationship management or case-tracking system

Compensation Details: The projected base salary for this position ranges between $72,000 - $90,000 annually. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
