    Icam Post System Requirements

Icam Post technology is now part of Vericut, bringing advanced CNC post-processing, machine simulation, optimization and verification capabilities into a more connected manufacturing software workflow.

The requirements below are intended to help users choose the right workstation setup for Icam workflows, whether they use post-processing only, or combine Icam with Virtual Machine® simulation.

An internet connection and email are recommended for installation, support, licensing, and software updates.

Recommended setup for advanced Icam and Vericut workflows.

For users working with complex CNC machines, multi-axis machining, mill-turn applications, material-removal simulation, or large assemblies, Vericut and Icam recommend a higher-performance workstation.

A recommended advanced setup may include:

    • Windows 11 64-bit Professional.

    • AMD Threadripper, Intel i9 or Xeon-class processor.

    • 32 GB RAM or higher.

    • Professional GPU with 4 GB GPU RAM or higher.

    • NVMe storage.

    • Dual 1920 x 1080 monitors or higher.

    • A three-button mouse with a mouse wheel.

    • 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse for 3D navigation.

    Video and graphic requirements.

Graphics performance is especially important when using Virtual Machine® simulation or machine visualization.

Users should keep graphics drivers up to date, as driver performance can have a major impact on simulation and display behavior.

    Minimum

AMD Radeon RX or NVIDIA GeForce graphics card with 2 GB GPU RAM.

    Recommended

AMD Radeon Pro or NVIDIA professional graphics card with 4 GB GPU RAM or higher.

For simulation-heavy workflows, complex machine tools, large assemblies or multi-monitor setups, a higher-performance graphics card is recommended.

    Icam software operating systems.

Icam software is designed for Windows-based manufacturing environments.

For current Vericut-supported workstation environments, Windows 11 64-bit Professional is recommended.

Legacy Icam V22-23 documentation stated that V22 would not work on Windows operating systems earlier than Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2.

However, customers should confirm supported operating systems for their current Icam and Vericut configuration before installation or upgrade.

    Recommended operating system

    Windows 11 64-bit Professional.

    Storage requirements.

A solid-state drive is recommended for installation, data access and general workstation performance.

    Minimum

Solid State Drive with at least 50 GB free space.

    Recommended

NVMe drive with additional capacity for program files, simulation files, machine models, documentation, support files and customer data.

Users working with large machine simulation projects, multiple CAM systems or extensive project archives should allow for additional storage capacity.

    Processor requirements.

Processor performance affects how quickly Icam and Vericut workflows can process, simulate, and analyze CNC programs.

For post-processing only, processor requirements are typically lower. For machine simulation, Virtual Machine® workflows, large part programs and complex machine models, a faster processor is recommended.

    Minimum

AMD Ryzen or Intel i7-class processor.

    Recommended

AMD Threadripper, Intel i9 or Xeon-class processor.

    Monitor requirements.

A higher-resolution display makes it easier to work with CAM data, post-processing output, machine simulation windows, and support documentation.

    Minimum

    1920 x 1080 resolution or higher.

    Recommended

1920 x 1080 resolution or higher with dual monitors.

Many users benefit from a dual-monitor setup, especially when working with CAM software, Icam tools, Vericut simulation, NC output, and documentation simultaneously.

    Memory requirements.

The amount of physical memory required depends on the workflow's size and complexity.
Post-processing-only workflows may require less memory, while Virtual Machine® simulation, large machine models, material-removal simulation, and multi-axis applications can require more.

    Minimum

    16 GB RAM.

    Recommended

    32 GB RAM or higher.

For large parts, complex fixtures, detailed machine models, or simulation-heavy workflows, additional memory may improve performance.

    CAM post-processing only.

Post-processing-only workflows generally require fewer graphics resources than simulation workflows.

This configuration applies to users primarily running Icam post-processing tools, such as CAM-POST® and GENER, without Virtual Machine® simulation.
